"The great underlying principle of the Ghost Dance doctrine is that the time will come when the whole Indian race, living and dead, will be reunited upon a regenerated earth, to live a life of aboriginal happiness, forever free from death, disease and misery."

Wovoka, a Paiute Indian from Nevada, was the so-called Messiah of the Ghost Dance Religious Movement of 1888 to 180. Wovoka spent his younger years as a ranch hand. While working on the ranch, Wovoka learned some English and was exposed to bits and pieces of the white man's theology. It seems that this exposure to our theology played a large part in his teachings of the Ghost Dance.

Wovoka claimed to have received a revelation from God himself. He said, "When the sun died, I went up to heaven and saw God and all the people who had died a long time ago. God told me to come back and tell my people they must be good and love one another, and not fight, or steal, or lie. He gave me this dance to give to my people." Wovoka believed himself to be the Messiah for his people, the Indians.

The doctrine of the Ghost Dance Religion followed a simple moral code like many other religions. As stated earlier, some of Wovoka's preachings seem to come from an exposure to Christianity. He taught simple morality and honesty. "Do no harm to anyone. Do right always. Do not tell lies."

Cheap University Papers on The Ghost Dance

The Ghost Dance Religion discouraged the extravagant mourning customs of many Indian cultures. "When your friends die, you must not cry." Whenever someone died, the family would kill horses, burn teepees, destroy property, cut off their hair, or physically harm themselves with knives. They mourned very hard because they believed that they would never see their loved one again. The Ghost Dance taught that they would see each other again, so they don't have to grieve so much. The Ghost Dance also forbade war. "You must not fight." This was especially hard for most of the Indians because they were taught from birth to be warriors.

The message of the Ghost Dance was that if everyone obeyed these teachings and made themselves worthy, by discarding all things warlike, and practicing honesty, peace and good will they would benefit with a new life. The followers believed that there would be a regeneration of the earth and renewal of life somewhat like Noah and the flood. All non-believers and those not deemed worthy, such as the white man, would not survive this regeneration, and all those left would enjoy a bountiful life in paradise.

The teachings were only part of the religion. To aid in the coming of the regeneration, the followers were also to perform a dance. They were to dance for four consecutive nights with the dancing of the fourth night continuing into the morning of the fifth day. Then they were to bathe and purify themselves in the river. They were to perform this ritual every six weeks.

The Ghost Dance Religion had many followers, from many tribes, all over the United States. The largest number of any one group were from the Sioux. There were few, if any, followers from the Athabaskan cultures, perhaps because of their great fear of the dead.

The buffalo, the main support of the Sioux, was nearly exterminated by the late 1800's. The Indians were practically prisoners on reservations. Their treaties were violated, their promised supplies were constantly delayed and were never as much as promised. The Indians were starving. They were physically, economically and emotionally beaten. They had nowhere else to go. They were ready for anything as a way out. The Ghost Dance Religion gave them something to look forward to; a new life in paradise.

Events near the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota during the winter of 180 played a large part in the ending of the Ghost Dance Movement. After Custer's defeat at the Little Big Horn, the US Government became very wary of the Indians and was concerned that the Indian participation in the Ghost Dances would lead to an uprising. The whites did not understand the "doctrine" of the Ghost Dance and thought that it was a "war" dance.

Troops were sent to arrest Indian leaders with the hopes of quieting their followers. When Sitting Bull was killed during his attempted arrest, another Sioux leader, Big Foot, led his people to seek protection at the Pine Ridge Reservation. They were intercepted near Wounded Knee Creek. MAJ Whitside ordered his soldiers to disarm the Sioux. A shot was fired and the fighting began. When the smoke cleared there were almost 160 dead Sioux, at least half of whom were women and children, and less than 0 dead soldiers.

This incident helped to convince most of the followers of the Ghost Dance Religion that their expectations of being invulnerable would not come true. Dates for the regeneration were predicted more than once, but it never materialized. As time passed with no immediate realization of their hopes and dreams the Ghost Dance Religion gradually changed to a hope for a better life in the far unknown future.

The Ghost Dance Religion influenced more tribes than any other movement in our history. Eventually it might have changed attitudes and improved the outlook of Indians all over the United States. Without interference from the whites, with their fear and ignorance of the Indian's cultures, it might have continued to be a dream for peace, happiness, abundance - a life in paradise like the "old" days.

Netzero (NZRO) and AOL Time Warner (AOL) both operate as Internet Service Providers (ISP). With vastly different business models both companies have arrived at a critical juncture in the life cycle of their respective organizations, merger. While many are aware that AOL and Time Warner have recently merged, far fewer have noticed the quiet union of Netzero and Juno.com. The results of these mergers at both companies have had greatly different results on each.

One simple barometer of how a company will deal with, and what it expects for the future can often be found in the letter from the chairman Very often these letters paint a best case scenario regarding future results. However, In the case of AOL and NetZero, at least for 00, the two companies could not be farther apart. Excerpts from both companys letters from the chairman follow.

Net Zero

Our commitment to growth, combined with our efficient operating structure, helped position United Online for its outstanding performance this quarter, highlighted by record organic pay subscriber growth and record profitability. We are very pleased with the progress we have made in building our consumer brands and carving out a powerful niche in the marketplace. As a company, we will continue to innovate and invest in opportunities that we believe will grow our business over the long term (NetZero, 00).

Do my essay on AOL vs. Netzero Analysis of letters from the chairmen CHEAP !

NetZero seems confident that it can marshal both brand and products for continued growth throughout 00 and beyond. NetZero might experience even larger returns if the company expanded its current product offerings, and by continuing to locate merger and acquisition opportunities. Nonetheless, NetZero lacks the broad diversification of its business currently enjoyed by AOL. . Even so, AOL has been troubled since its merger.

AOL

Going forward, the Company's primary focus will be to compare 00's financial results to 00's reported financial results, without adjusting for certain items such as merger and restructuring related charges that were previously excluded for comparative purposes. As the impact of such items was to decrease 00's reported results and, in certain cases, such items are expected to continue to adversely impact 00 Free Cash Flow (AOL, 00).

Despite the gloomy prospects for 00 cited in the letter, AOL has many significant strengths. After all, AOL Time Warner is one of the worlds leading media and entertainment companies, whose businesses include interactive services, cable systems, filmed entertainment, television networks, music and publishing.

AOL could likely benefit by lowering the price of its (ISP) related services. A price reduction in this area might serve as a productive engine for garnering subscribers, and could help it stem the loss of existing subscribers to companies like NetZero who

As it stands today, Netzero expects a 45% increase in revenue for 00, while AOL is expecting its revenues to be flat. Additionally AOL has warned that it expects ad revenues to be down at all of its units including the ISP, but Netzero continues to realize significant gains in the same division. Lastly, Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortization (EBITDA) are expected to be up 06% at NetZero While AOL are expecting a flat rate or a reduction of 10% in the coming year. Thus it seems NetZero has the winning model, at least for the time being.

In George Orwell's 184, Winston Smith feels frustrated by the oppression and rigid control of the ruling Party of London, which prohibits free thought, sex, and any expression of individuality. The people of his nation, Oceania, are watched every minute of every day by "Big Brother", an omniscient leader who can only be seen on "telescreens," but never in real life. Winston illegally purchases a diary in which to write his criminal thoughts, and becomes fixated on a powerful Party member named O'Brien, whom Winston believes is a secret member of the Brotherhood, the legendary group that works to overthrow the party. He also begins a covert affair with Julia, a co-worker, which is of course, a terrible crime. In the long run, Winston commits a form of suicide through his actions. Judging by Smith's behavior, he would rather rebel against "Big Brother" as long as possible and accept the consequences for his actions, than fall victim to the Party's control over all thoughts and individuality.

Even at the beginning of the novel, Winston does not want to sacrifice his freedom for the Party. He purchases the illegal diary and begins writing several questions he has about the people suddenly involved in his life. His mind wanders off to thoughts about the dark-haired co-worker of his, and when he looks down, he sees that he has been writing the unthinkable, thoughtcrime (As it's called in newspeak, Oceania's language). His page has "DOWN WITH BIG BROTHER" written over and over again. He knows that this action will lead to capture and punishment, but his feelings about this Party are too overwhelming to keep to himself. He is trying to express his inner emotions without verbally rebelling against the Party.

Smith also has views on sex that show his thought that freedom should be granted, and it is terrible to have "Big Brother" watching every action. Hes divorced because his wife couldnt produce the baby the Party expects, and wouldnt consider sex for any other purpose because desire is thoughtcrime. He is drawn to Julia because she is corrupt, which means she enjoys sex and has previously taken several lovers. Knowing he will be punished, he falls in love with her. Winston cannot stop this love he has for Julia, and even though the Party outlaws such relationships, Smith feels he has nothing to lose. He needs to keep his freedom.

Finally, Winston is given a copy of Emmanuel Goldstein's book, which he reads aloud to Julia in a room above the store in which he had purchased his diary. In his final attempt to defend the Brotherhood, he is seized by soldiers and it turns out he had been fooled all along. He is taken to the Ministry of Love, and tries his hardest not to give in to the brainwashing and torturing given by O'Brien, who had fooled him all along. In the last scene, Winston is taken to the dreaded Room 101, where his worst nightmare, the most horrible thing that could happen to him, does. A cage full of rats is strapped to his face, when finally, his spirit is broken, and he is released to the outside world. He had done all he could to live a free life even with the presence of "Big Brother," but his fight was finally ended.

Custom Essays on 1984 and Today

George Orwell claimed, Thoughtcrime was not a thing that could be concealed forever. You might dodge successfully for a while, even for years, but sooner or later they were bound to get you." Which is exactly what happened to Winston Smith. His rebellion was not one that was foolish and too outspoken. He silently tried to defeat the Party for his personal happiness, and in the end it cost him everything he had fought for, and his love for Julia. He had learned to love Big Brother, which was his ultimate fear when trying to live a life of individuality. The Party had defeated him.

What is the definition of freedom? Some people think it is saying or doing whatever you want that does not physically harm a person or their property. Others think it is being able to live, say, and do anything without restrictions. Nowadays there is not as much lack of freedom as precedence in our democracy society, so can you imagine the horror the people must have felt when they could not do what they wanted because of the restrictions? However, the injury is not only facing the absence of freedom, but it also suffering the physical and mental torment.

In the nineteenth and early twentieth century, people who were not white underwent the restrictions by Americans' law that hurt their hearts and minds, causing they did not have physical freedom. " The School Days of Indian Girl" by Zitkala-Sa and "In the Land of the Free" by Sui Sin Far implied the problems of lack of physical freedom. In the 1800s, Zikala-Sa was born on a reservation in South Dakota. At that time, the hegemony of government took Indian children from their parents and sent them to missionary schools and did not allow them to return home for years. At school, Zikala-Sa could not rebel against the missionaries even though they did some things that really hurt her heart. Sui Sui Sin Far described how many immigrants from China contributed to the growth of the United States, but economic depression caused the Americans to compete for jobs with Chinese. As a result, the government was pressured to limit immigration. The examination process of immigrants often took months and separated family members. In the story, a Chinese couple did not have any paper to allow their child to come into the United States, so the child had to be taken by immigration officers until he received papers. During that time, the mother was worrying about her son and was so upset everyday. Both of these two characters undergo the internal suffering when they do have external limitation.

Physical freedom has a correlation with liberating the mind and spirit. Sometimes not having freedom means people use their power to restrict someone to do or not to do something that they do not like and want. Although Zikals-Sa and Chinese mother are unwilling, they still have to accept everything, because the environment, rule or law asks. However, does the external limitation bring crucial pain? No, the worst pain is not the lack of freedom to say or do something; it is the suffering in the mind and spirit while accepting the absence of freedom from torment.

For example, Zitkala-Sa faced not only the lack of having physical freedom, but also torment in her heart and mind. After arriving at school, when she was told about having her hair cut by her friends, she did not want to submit to this rule, because her mother had taught her "only unskilled warriors who were captured and cowards had their hair shingled by the enemy." As a result, she ran away and tried to hide herself under the bed. However she was found and had to accept it. After having her hair cut, she cried aloud and felt like a coward. She lost her spirit. Zitkala-Sa did not have any strength to rebel against such treatment; in addition, the worst thing was that she had to tolerate the pain in her heart, which means when having to accept the bad thing, it would affect the internal feelings or emotion as sad and painful.Custom writing service can write essays on Freedom

Losing a baby because of the restriction of the law is also a type of mental torment. Although the Chinese couple was excited to return their home, United States, with their little son, the customs officer said there was not any paper proof for the little boy to enter the U.S and the baby had be taken for a while. The mother wanted to reject what the customs officer said, but it was a rule that she had to accept. Before she spent a treat deal of money and most of her jewels for the lawyer to help them get back their son, she was so sad and her heart was broken. Because she could not rebel the rule, she did not have power to show a vigorous resistance to the government. That's why she let custom officers take her little son. She accepted this situation outside, but inside of her was not agreement. Therefore she was suffering of losing her son.

There are different types of freedom; it depends on what people want. Some people may want freedom of speech; others may want freedom of religion. However, the worst thing is not when people who do not have freedom. The worst thing is when people undergo prejudice that affects their internal feelings because of the lack of freedom. In both of these two stories, Zitkala-Sa and the Chinese mother do not have any power to resist the unfair things that hurt their minds, hearts, and bodies. Finally having the physical freedom that they want is the best medicine to liberate their painful spirits.

A combination of perspectives in the epic poem Beowulf and the modern novel Grendel allows the reader to contrast the point of view of both pieces and by doing so alters the perception of religion, good and bad, and Grendel. In 750 Beowulf was written and later translated by Judeo Christian monks who focused away from the "marauding monsters and menacing trolls" to predestination and God. Beowulf became a poem involving Pagan traditions, Christian values, and a battle between good and evil. Grendel is a modern novel written in 171 by John Gardner. It reveals Grendel's feelings, thoughts, and motives. The two stories provide the reader two different perspectives of Beowulf and Grendel.

In Beowulf, Grendel was seen as a "murderous ravager" and a "vanquished monster." He was feared by the Danes, and exhibits little emotion and no remorse for taking the lives of others. After the Thanes had spent a night of feasting and drinking they slept in the Wine-hall. While they are sleeping Grendel enters the hall and rejoices in seeing the ease of taking his victims. He acted quickly and "tore one into pieces, bit through the bones,/ gulped the blood, and gobbled the flesh,/ greedily gorged on the lifeless corpse,/ the hands and the feet." Beowulf watches him from the corner of his eye and attacks him. This description portrays Grendel as a heartless demon and a savage monster. In John Gardners book, Grendel is not portrayed as a viscous cold-blooded killer but a misguided individual, rich in feeling and thought. He is depicted as a gentle being when he picks up his mother by the armpits as he would a child. In Beowulf, the reader would never imagine Grendel treating anything as gently as he would a child. Grendel is depicted as a monster to establish a battle between good and evil and God and the devil. The story Grendel portrays him as an alienated individual, unaccepted by the world outside of his cave. He wishes to be a part of the feasts that the Danes hold and watches from a distance the laughter and joy that takes place there. The reader is provided insight to Grendel's thoughts. Upon the arrival of the Geats, Grendel is "mad with joy," and sees nature's beauty as he kisses the ice on the frozen creeks, pressing his ear to it, "honoring the water that rattles below." He admired the ship and its "white sails riding the swan-road, flying like a bird." This experience reveals that he has positive emotions and contrasts with his character portrayed in Beowulf, where he is seen as a stoic murderer. When Beowulf arrived he looked at him and admired his chest as wide as an oven and his beam like arms. Beowulf walks away and Grendel almost falls into a trance looking at his broad shoulders. Grendel, a savage monster and demon, reveals traits of admiration, jealousy, and fear. He knew that Beowulf was here to kill him, and he became less sure of himself than he pretended. When the struggle occurred later that night, Beowulf triumphed and killed Grendel by ripping his arm off. During the fight, he realized that he would not survive and he calls out for his mother, crying and bawling like a baby. His portrayal as emotional and helpless contrasts with the dispassionate personality described in Beowulf.

Beowulf is a man "with the strength of thirty men." He is portrayed as a hero and a man that everyone admires in Beowulf. He performs deeds that no other man could manage by killing Grendel, his mother, and the dragon. He is loved by the Danes and deserving of honor. In Grendel, Beowulf is a man with limited strength and certainly not held in admiration by everyone. The Danes are not happy to see him upon his arrival. In Beowulf, although they do not agree with the armor the men have brought with them, they eagerly accept him into their society. In contrast, the Danes in Grendel "were not pleased, to say the least, that the Geats had come to save them. Honor is very big with them; they'd rather be eaten alive than be bailed out by strangers." After Grendel sees Beowulf he goes back to his cave, and debates whether he should be afraid of him but decides "there is nothing frightening about the stranger" because he has "broken the backs of bulls no weaker than Beowulf is." Unfreth's challenge to a boast is also more dramatized and of greater importance in Grendel. The crowd and king laugh along with him as he makes fun of Beowulf for taking part in such a preposterous event as swimming in an ice-cold ocean for five days to win a bet. As night falls, the Danes fall asleep, full of mead, and Grendel comes to attack the warriors. In Beowulf, the struggle between the results in Beowulf ripping Grendel's arm off but inflicting no additional pain. In contrast, in Grendel, the heartless brute caused the misguided individual much suffering. The fight is described in great detail. As Grendel resisted Beowulf, he could "feel the bones go, ground from their sockets…he viciously twists his arm behind his back." Once Beowulf has Grendel into a position of disadvantage, he does not stop attacking him as the reader is led to believe in Beowulf. He continues to torment him by whispering threats into his ear and throwing him around the room, bashing his head into the walls and making him sing of them. Beowulf doesn't stop until Grendel is dead, and rejoices in the fact that he had become a killer. Beowulf is depicted as both a hero and a heartless man. The reason for this contrast is to show the variations in people's personality and the different ways that ways that one may perceive someone.

Contrasting the points of view in Beowulf and Grendel portrays Beowulf and Grendel differently. In Beowulf, Grendel is seen as a stoic, dispassionate murderer, and Beowulf is a hero, admired by all. In Grendel, Beowulf is portrayed as a heartless monster and Grendel as a misguided individual with emotions and feelings.

Diversity

The expanding conflict over cultural diversity in corporate America may present as many opportunities and problems as affirmative action. Today, cultural diversity is an important fact of life and business, due to the changing face of society, and therefore, the work place. It is growing ever more essential for people to interact with others outside of their racial, ethical, religious, regional and social boundaries. To stay on top of their competitors, especially in the 10s and going forward, corporations must change their approach, and see diversity not as a necessary evil or a mere threat, but as a source of enrichment and opportunity that may bring a wealth of benefits to the company.

In an examination of the U.S. workplace and specifically looking at management positions, it is clearly evident that minorities are under represented (Ronald Takaki, 00). The reasons behind this seem to vary depending on which point of view it is looked at. Some argue that minorities havent been in the labor pool long enough to work their way up" (David Thomas, 1). Others argue that minority employees dont know the rules that allow one to win in the corporate game (David Thomas, 1). While these reasons may hold some truth, it is also, as proven time after time in this countrys media, a matter of race and/or gender. There is an inherit distrust on the part of todays managers (typically white males who grew up with little exposure to people from other cultures) in the abilities of others outside of the white, male work-force David Thomas, 1). At the time many of todays leading CEOs were in school, they were taught that blacks had smaller brains than whites and that women were not as smart and were overly emotional. The attitudes and beliefs of these men have undoubtedly been influenced by such training. They have a deep seeded belief that women, African Americans, and in effect, all others than themselves are less competent, and they believe it to be true to a biological, molecular level (David Thomas, 1). At least this is true of the older generation, but what of the younger, civil rights, generation? It seems that the younger executives coming in now are worse theyre less tolerant, high on their big M.B.A. education. Their attitude is that the laws will take care of everything. They have little personal concern with doing whats right (David Thomas, 1). The training received by most of these managers has usually been based on the assumption that managing means managing a homogeneous white, male work force and not on managing any type of diversity whatsoever (David Thomas, 1).

With this in perspective, is it any wonder why minorities are leaving organizations to open their own business. Their corporate managers cant relate to them - not as employees, co-workers or people. When promotion time comes around, the managers promote only what they know - other white males. People are comfortable with others who look, act, and think like themselves. "So the people in power bring in others like themselves" (Ronald Takaki, 00). This means that as a minority, a person can only go so far in an organization. No minority feels comfortable in such an atmosphere, which is why so many of them are leaving the corporate scene and starting their own businesses. A person can be their own boss and not have to deal with the issue, at least at that level. It is unfortunate to note, however, that 65% of minority owned businesses fail in their 1st year of operation (Ronald Takaki, 00). To combat these problems and help alleviate tensions among the different ethnic groups, many organizations are integrating cultural diversity into the workplace. They have many means by which to approach this. Some companies offer management courses dealing with racial and gender related issues. In others, the focus is placed on coaching women and minorities how to be successful in the white, male, dominated business environment. Still others have developed means of ensuring the upward mobility of women and minorities on an executive level (David Thomas, 1). Many of these organizations also celebrate the different cultural holidays. This serves a dual function in that it not only makes minorities fell welcome, it also serves as a way of exposing white America, and specifically the white, male mangers, to part of what this person is (Ronald Takaki, 00). It introduces to them something that they more than likely would not have gone out and discovered on their own. It shows them that different doesnt mean bad and that there is nothing to fear. With this exposure, managers and their minority employees can at least begin to share some common knowledge and stand on common ground. America has always been called a great melting pot, but it is only true in one sense (Ronald Takaki, 00). What no one seems to realize is that this phrase only held true for the European immigrant experience, not those from Africa, not those from Asia, nor those from South America. Although people of European decent still hold the majority position, it clear and quite frightening to some, that the same people that were excluded from the melting pot are becoming the majorities in major cities all across the country. It is estimated that by the year 00, the minorities of today will be the majorities of tomorrow (David Thomas, 1). With the understand that over the long term, the successful manager is going to have to deal with large numbers of minorities and women in business, and it is presumed most managers want to be successful, want their company to be successful. Therefore, dont walk away from diversity walk up to it.Custom writing service can write essays on Diversity

Ever since I was four years old, I have always wanted to become a veterinarian, or, as I used to call it, a dog doctor. Growing up, I was not like my peers who wanted to be something different every week. I can vividly remember the hot summer days when "Dr. Stephanie" would see her patients, the neighborhood stuffed animals diagnosing all of their ailments, and even at times performing dangerous life threatening procedures. I have never steered away from my goals of becoming a veterinarian. I have only changed my area of specialization from wanting to work on the types of animals that they keep in a zoo, to wanting work on companion animals.

Then I got older and reality started to sink in, I could not go to any school in the world and become a veterinarian, because, after thorough research I discovered that there were only twenty seven schools of veterinary medicine in the United States. Being a native of Louisiana and "Daddy's Girl" by birth, the idea of leaving Louisiana, my comfort zone, to further my education was out of the question. When I found out that Louisiana State University had one of the best veterinary schools in the nation, I was more that happy, I was ecstatic.

Through even more extensive research, I discovered the great number difficulties involved in getting accepted into veterinary school. Throughout my high school career, I made sure that I took the most rigorous high school courses available, in order to be prepared for the long journey ahead. When I decided that Louisiana State University was the university in which I wanted to continue with higher education at, I made sure that I met all of the admission requirements that are necessary in order to gain acceptance into a prestigious school like Louisiana State University. At the beginning of my high school career, all of the area schools were starting a program in which students could focus their academic studies in the area of concentration that their career goals were in. I started by taking a class which taught me about the multitude of careers that were part of the allied health field. I was also informed best ways to achieve a career goal in those areas.

The culmination of that program was the opportunity to complete an internship with a business in which you focused your energy on during the duration of the program. I was chosen to work at a local veterinary hospital. This gave me the awesome opportunity to have "on-the-job" experience in my desired field, thus preparing for my desired career even more thoroughly. It also caused me to experience many of the hard lessons one must go through as a veterinarian. I started at the bottom and cleaned cages. Eventually, I worked my way up to being able to restrain animals and assist in their physical examinations.

Help with essay on Why I'm in college After being on the job for a couple of months, I was the only assistant available when one of the vets was forced to euthanize a golden retriever who had cutaneous melanomas and was very bad off. I was asked to restrain and comfort him as the doctor injected him with the medication that would put him to sleep. Luckily, that occurred in the last ten minutes of my work period that day and I was able to leave right away because it made me think of my dog and wonder how some people could be so cruel to such loyal animals and then I cried for about an hour. I was, however, able to see the good side of things as well. Towards the end of my internship, one of the clients brought in a three month old puppy who had had all four of her legs broken at least once, most likely because of being hit by a car. I was able to develop bond with her, watch her as she healed, and was eventually able to experience the joy of seeing her put up for adoption, finding a good home.

These experiences have led me to have even stronger convictions and generally feel stronger about my desire to help animals and even has even helped me to learn to like people, in general, a little more as well. Because of this, I not only want to get stellar grades in both my undergraduate and graduate studies and become a veterinarian, I now have even more goals such as meeting and helping new people while I am in college. I would also like to become involved in many of the activities such as the Pre- Veterinary Society and Alpha Epsilon Delta, an honorary organization for pre- med students. I wish take advantage of the many opportunities available to me through the College of Agriculture.

College as a whole is very different from high school. In high school things were quite easier. On a personal level, one was at home under the protection of their parents and could just ask for money and it would be given. On the scholastic level, high school and college are in completely different time zones. In high school, one was in school for roughly seven hours each day, interacting with the same close knit group of people on a day to day basis, and had frequent testing in various subject areas. As a college student, one is sleeping on a dorm mattress that to say is comfortable is an overstatement and the food is, well, food to say the most. One must not only attend classes and both follow instructions and study for exams that include multiple chapters. One must also learn how to be a more responsible and disciplined individual through trial and error time management techniques. In addition to the new found and at times exhilarating that freedom that is found and is not available to most high school students comes the great above mentioned responsibility that must not be taken lightly. There is even a more defining purpose for the college experience, learning how to interact with others from different backgrounds on a leveling which we can all coexist. There are many things such as this that I enjoy about college, especially the freedom and the ability to meet so many new people.
