Claude Oscar Monet was born in Paris on November 14,1840. When Monet was a child his family moved to Le Havre. Monet did not take schooling very seriously and so began to draw caricature in the margins of his books. He became good at this and was soon creating caricature pictures of the townspeople and shop owners in and around Le Havre. In 1858 he met up with Eugene Boudin who encouraged the young Monet to expand beyond caricature. The younger artist soon saw the wisdom in Boudins words and began exploring nature and its colors and forms. Monets family moved to the port town of Le Havre in 1845.

He took his early art lessons from the painter, Eugene Boudin. Boudin, who worked up sketches of out doors, encouraged Monet to do the same. Though Boudin was never a highly regarded artist, he played a very important in Monets artistic career. After some time, Monet and Boudin had formed a friendship that would last a lifetime. in 1857

his mother Louise Monet died. And Monet tries to commit suicide. Monet moved to Paris in 185 and In 1871 settled in Agential. He fixed up a boat, and painted his way up and down the Seine River, capturing his impressions of the interplay of light, water and atmosphere meeting new people and heavily socializing for the first time in his life. During the franco prussian war 1870 he took refuge in England, and he studied the work of Constable and Turner, painted the Thames and London parks, and met the dealer Durand-Ruel, who was to become one of the great champions of the Impressionists. In 1878 he moved to Vtheuil and in 188 he settled at Giverny, also on the Seine, but about 40 miles from Paris. After having experienced extreme poverty, Monet began to prosper. By 180 he was successful enough to buy the house at Giverny he had previously rented and in 18 he married his mistress Alice , with whom he had begun an affair in 1876, three years before the death of his first wife. 188 Monet settled at Giverny where he created a magnificent garden. This garden was the inspiration for most of his later work and inspired the series Water Lilies and the Japanese Bridge (begun in 18). In 111 his wife alice dies of unknown reasons. As age and bad eyesight descended upon the artist his works lost almost all sense of form and are now referred to as Abstract Impressionism. Czanne once said that Monet was only an eye, but my God, what an eye. Monet died on December 5 16 of cancer because he smoked a lot , and he nearly blind when he passed .He was known to have said that he feared the dark more than death". His artwork still lives on today in museums all over the world. Monet was one of the greatest artists of all time he will be remembered for years to come. I really enjoy Monet work. This spring I am taking a little trip to Washington D.C to see some sites and after reading up on Monet life I think I might pay a visit to the art museum and see his work in person. I believe that museum hold the most famous work of his life. That is of his most famous works of the Impressionist movement. Like (London Houses Of Parliament) and Sunset in Venice and Water Lily Pool. Monet worked endlessly on this project from around 100 until his death.

Carnivora

Carnivora is the order that includes lions, tigers, wolves, dogs, cats, raccoons, bears, weasels, hyenas, seals, and walruses, to name just a few. Most carnivores are land animals, but an important and highly specialized group of carnivores, the pinnipeds or fin-feet, have taken up life in the oceans; pinnipeds include seals, sea lions, and walruses. A few other carnivores, such as the sea otter, are also specialized for life in the oceans. Around 70 species are among the living Carnivora. They are distributed across the world, in all major land masses (except possibly Australia, where the only terrestrial Carnivora, the dingo, may have been brought by man) and in all oceans, with the exception Antarctica and small islands. Places such as Antarctica are to cold and scarce of food for animals in the order of Carnivora to survive.

Most members of the Order Carnivora can be recognized by their enlarged fourth upper premolar and first lower molar, which together form an efficient shear for cutting meat and tendon. These teeth are referred to as the carnassial pair. The exceptions are a few forms, such as bears, raccoons, and seals, in which these teeth are secondarily modified.

Carnivores tend to be medium-sized animals; too small and they couldnt find enough within their capacity to kill; too large and they wouldnt be able to satisfy their appetites. Most have very acute senses. Vision and hearing are excellent in many carnivores, and the sense of smell is often remarkable. Most have relatively large brains. Many are excellent runners. A few are good long-distance runners, but more commonly, Carnivora are rapid sprinters that use stealth to approach their prey, and then overcome it with a short, violent rush. A few, like bears and raccoons, seem relatively slow or clumsy, but even these species are capable of remarkable bursts of speed. Even the long-distance runners dont have the highly modified and relatively inflexible skeletons and movement patterns of cursorily herbivores like artiodactyls; this is probably related to the often unpredictable demands that catching and killing large prey place on their skeletons.Cheap custom writing service can write essays on carnivora

In proportion to their body size, carnivores have large head and well developed cerebral hemispheres which control the intelligent behavior needed for hunting. Their senses are efficient, enabling the animal first to locate prey at a distance and then to guide the attack. Carnivores have a fine sense of smell (Nasua narica), important for both trailing prey and for communication. Scent released from the anal and other glands conveys information about an animals identity, sex and territorial ownership.

Most carnivores breed only once a year, although a few species (weasels) breed only every two or three years. Most species have a gestation period of 50 to 115 days. Delayed implantation of the fertilized egg occurs in ursids and some mustelids, so the period from mating to birth is considerably longer than average. Litters vary in size from single offspring in bears to 1 or more in skunks and wild dogs. The young are usually blind at birth, completely helpless, covered with hair and are necessarily dependant on parental care for up to two years. In captivity some carnivores have been known to live for up to 0 years.

Human relationships with the Carnivora are extremely varied. On the one hand, dogs and cats have been domesticated for thousands of years. Many carnivores, such as mink, seal, fox, and bobcat, have long been hunted or ranched for their fur. Other carnivores benefit humans by killing pests such as snakes and rodents, or by consuming carrion. However, the reputation of many large carnivores as predators on man or on livestock a false or highly exaggerated reputation, in most cases has been used to justify unrestricted hunting. Hunting and trapping of wild carnivores for fur, and the destruction of habitats around the world have also contributed towards bringing many carnivore species to extinction or to the brink of extinction.

As their habitats dwindle and populations become more fragile, the fate of the many species of carnivore is totally in human hands. We must decide if we are willing to make the sacrifices necessary to save these strikingly beautiful creatures.

Elements in society can test the integrity of the individuals that live in it. In William

Goldin's, The Lord of the Flies this is shown through a few key symbols. In the beginning of

the novel the conch represents authority, but as chaos starts to take over the authority is

destroyed. The signal fire shows the loss of hope and a decent to corruption. In the beginning it

is used as a means of rescue, but after Piggy's glasses are stolen, Jack lights the forest on fire

trying to kill Ralph. Ralph represents leadership. As the kids turn to Jack, Ralph looses power

over the children, and anarchy rules the island.

The rules of the conch give hope for a civilized way of life on the island, but hope is lost as

the children loose interest for the rules. Jack speeks without permission but Ralph quickly

interupts, "Jack! Piggy has the conch which means he is allowed to speak." Ralph,

being a fair chief, upholds the rule of the conch and lets everyone have a chance to speak.

Toward the end of the novel, the children do not care to follow the rules, and the meetings often

break into arguements. Jack is the first to stand up to Ralph, "We dont need rules anymore. We

know who ought to say things." Jack does not care for the rules, or for Ralph. He feels that they

do not need order. Jack does not want the weaker to be heard. Some of the weaker children

realize that no one listens to them so they do not speak. After Ralph calls an assembly "Piggy

came and stood outside the triangle, this indicated that he wished to listen, but would not speak".

Even Piggy, who spoke at earleir meetings, is now scared to voice his own opinion.

In the beginning of the book the fire is a beacon of hope, but as the chidren loose faith they

turn to Jack, who uses the fire as a means of destruction. The first time that Ralph speaks of the

fire the kids are very excited, but do not think of the dangers involved. At the second meeting

Ralph shouts, "We shall make a fire"... "A fire! Make a fire!" The children are very anccious to

go light the fire, they do not think about any of the consequences. The boys argue during the lighting of the fire but do not realize that it is getting out of hand. Piggy realizes the fire is out of

hand "...there is your small fire..." He immediatly puts the blame on Jack, who was the first to

start argueing. The boys all claim some responsibility for the fire after they realize that it has

killed a littleun. Jacks tribe sets out to kill Ralph so they light the forest on fire, intending to kill

Ralph, but instead they attract the attention of a passing ship. The captain of the ship comes to

check the island and finds Ralph "We saw your smoke. What have you been doing? Having a

war?" Jack steals Piggy's glasses, then lights the forest on fire so they can kill Ralph, but in the

end Jack is responsible for the rescue of the remaining children.

Ralph is chosen as the leader, but the kids turn against him and he looses all power.

Ralphfeels that since he was chosen to be the leader, the kids should follow his rules and listen to

what he says. The children start to turn away from Ralph, "I'm the chief on the island. You

chose me!" but Ralph does not let the children forget that he is the one that they have to listen to.

Ralph is the only one who enforces the rules through the whole novel. Ralph feels that "the rules

are all [they've] got!" Ralph feels that without the rules the group cannot funtion properly, and

that everyones voice should be heard. The day after the murder of Simon, Ralph and Piggy are

the only ones left in Ralph's group. Ralph brings up the murder, "That was Simon." Ralph

realizes that the beast running down the mountain was really Simon, and that they have

commited murder. This is one of the times that you really see how honest Ralph is with himself

Everyones integrity is shaken by certain events throughout their lives. As the children

loose hope, fear and evil pump through their veins creating a vendetta which does not end until

they are saved, as a result of an attempt to destroy the only drop of law and order remaining on

the island. The individuals in society that live off of hate will only bring misery to themselves as

they realize that the ones who are honest and stand up for themselves are always one step ahead.

Black River Journal

Quote 1

""This is Sunny Kerrigan, King five news, reporting live from the first day of Nicholas Balagula trial, where reclusive author Frank Corso…"""

G.M. Ford, Black River, p.1-

Cheap Custom Essays on Black River

Explanation 1

It introduces our character Frank Corso. It shows in this our protagonist is a well known criminal author and media follows him everywhere. This quote is important because it shows information about the character that will be play a crucial role in the novel.

Quote

"Renee Rogers flicked her eyes toward the stairs just in time to see Corso mount the last three steps to the mezzanine. HE was even better looking in person, than he was on TV, she decide six-three or four, somewhere in the vicinity of forty, wearing a black silk shirt and jeans under what must have been a three-thousand dollar cashmere coat. A man of extremes, she thought, as he strode across the marble floor in her direction. Probably what going in so much trouble, way back when."

G.M. Ford, Black River, p.

Explanation

Here it shows one of the lawyers against the criminal and how she looks towards Corso and see not only a famous writer but also a man that knows what he and what he does. He is not only that but also a good looking man that makes him put up a tough guy routine which is assumed that is why he gets into so much trouble.

Quote

""The only thing that would make me happier than seeing Balagula in prison would be seeing him in electric chair, which as far as I'm concerned is where he belongs, " Corso said."

G.M. Ford, Black River, p.5

Explanation

In this quote it explains how strongly Corso felt about this criminal Balagula who destroyed the Fairmont Hospital and ended killing so many people and he felt that this was the best punishment for the antagonist and nothing less than that.

Quote 4

""Our Mr. Corso is in attendance again." Few subjects got a predictable rise out of Nico as did the subject of Frank Corso. Despite years of glaring media coverage, Nico rarely took offense at anything generated by the media coverage. The dogs of capitalism, he called them, and neither read the papers nor watched the news. Mr. Corso, however, was another matter. Anything written about him by Mr. Corso he wanted to see immediately.

G.M. Ford, Black River, p.4-5

Explanation 4

In this quote it represents Frank Corso is someone in the media that doesn't even regard the media much. Balagula could care less for media coverage, however if there is one thing that boast him it is what Corso has to say about him.

Quote 5

"A little talk is often dangerous thing."

G.M. Ford, Black River, p.4

Explanation 5

Even thought this quote is short it says a lot. In this quote it talks about how Corso's book (little talk) can end up being very dangerous for Balagula because the books is based on him and talks about all the things he has done. Therefore exploiting this criminal to the whole world, which everyone would take everyone very seriously because Corso is very renowned writer all over.

Quote 6

"Corso thought it over. "I guess there's a part of me tat believes something corny like What goes around comes around. That things are intended to be in a certain way, and if you deviate too far you suffer the consequences."

G.M. Ford, Black River, p.40

Explanations 6

In this quote we have a well-known saying, which is, "What goes around comes around." I believe this is true and think that the author wants us to realize that this saying is universal and not only fictional characters think like this but so do people in the real world.

Quote 7

""It's what's left of the Black River," Corso said…Corso walked over the edge of the water. "The Black River used to be a major drainage for Lake Washington. All these little creeks running in, feeding the lake, and the Black River draining it out into the Cedar River and then the White and Green, until they all got together as Duwamish and emptied into Puget Sound. "Except that the clack River wouldn't die," Corso continued. "It went underground." He swept his hand around. "It pops up as marshes and seepage all over this part of country. They can't build on it so they turned into a bird sanctuaries."""

G.M. Ford, Black River, p.7-8

Explanation 7

The title comes in place with this quote. I think the author wanted to make a comparison with the Black River and the crimes Balagula had done. That how Balagula was a Russian and how he did crimes there and now in America he does the same. However now it is becoming old so something new has to be done on it. Therefore indicating something has to be done with Balagula.

Quote 8

""It's a river's nature to remain a river," Nhim Pov said."

G.M. Ford, Black River, p.8

Explanation 8

In this quote it explains that something that there will always be there and cannot be changed when it comes to dealing with nature. Although when it comes to a person some things have to be taken into matters and the person should be punished if they have done something wrong.

Quote

""I am Cambodian. I am in America now, but I will always be Cambodian. Like the Black River, I will always be what I am.""

G.M. Ford, Black River, p.

Explanation

It shows that no matter where you are from you will always be the same person form inside. For example, Pov will always be a Cambodian, Corso a criminal writer, and Balagula would always be a criminal and would never change because that's what he is and will always be known for that.

Quote 10

"Corso help up a moderating hand. "Mr. Downs," he said, "if you knew me at all you'd know my offer's got nothing to do with charity. With you or without you I'm going to find out what happened to my friend and why." He turned the hand palm up. "If somewhere in the process, I can help you to come to grips with a father you never knew, all the better. What's true is that I think you can use for me.""

G.M. Ford, Black River, 144

Explanation 10

Here it is seen the type of person Corso is and how he believes that to help his friend if he can help someone else he would be happy to do it. However, his main priority is to find out what to his friend and why. Which shows his characteristic that over this tough guy routine there is a guy that cares a lot more about his life and work. He also cares about his friends truly even if they are his ex-lover.

I have chosen to write my story about the life of a Neanderthal. Neanderthals existed about 0 000 to 00 000 years ago. Using information I have gathered from various sources I will be describing a Neanderthal's daily life activities, their rituals, culture, the tools they used and their methods of communicating to one another.

I woke up to the smell of fresh forest grass and trees. The sun was shining brightly, however the harsh cold temperatures of Europe were still hard to bare with. Today will be a busy day, just like any other, and there are many things to do.

I first went to sharpen my stone tools. It was very important that we had our tools in perfect condition when we hunted for optimal hunting time and to catch a lot of animals. My tribe didn't really have any strategy when we hunted; we relied on our force of power more than anything, however we were excellent hunters. Our cave was almost empty that day, and the migration season was beginning, so I hope that my tribe can bring back lots of food to store in the cave until we follow the animals to their new location. That day we brought home reindeers to store in our cave. We slaughtered the animals until they could not stand anymore and dragged the bodies back to our tribe's location. (http//www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/704/)

Part of our culture included cannibalism, and we eat our own kind sometimes. (http//members.iinet.net.au/~chawkins/life.htm#bear)

Cheap College Papers on Life as a Neanderthal

When it got really cold we used caves as shelters, or we would build shelters from bamboo sticks, wood and animal pelts to keep us warm. Our bodies have adapted to the harsh climates of Europe. (http//www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/704/)

Our tools were very primitive, however they worked for what we needed to get done. We used pointed stones for hunting, burin or chisel-like stones for cutting grooves, borer stones for making holes in soft materials, drills for making holes in harder materials (used in a twisting motion like a drill) and scrapers to scrape materials. As the years went on our technology of tools advanced as well and we soon were able to built flints to start fires and began to shape blades out of stone. We used the bones from all the animals that we hunted as different tools. Everything on an animal was useful to us, so we kept everything that would help us survive. We believed in the spirits of animals. These beliefs were incorporated in our cave art which some of the tribe members would decorate our shelters with. There would be carvings on the cave ceilings and walls, mostly drawings of animals and other Neanderthal beings. Our tribe members also made sculptures. The cave art was there for entertainment, however it is our belief that if we drew an animal that we wanted to hunt, and we stabbed its picture, we would have luck on the day of our hunt. Another belief of ours was in life after death and we cared about our dead so we buried them. This would be the tradition when we would pass on into the next world. We would grow flowers on the graveyards. We would draw pictures on the cave walls about burials and different gravesites. Most of our tribe members die at around the age of 0; the men grow to about 5 feet 6 inches and the women to 5 feet inches. (http//members.iinet.net.au/~chawkins/life.htm)

The day is almost over as I am sitting with my tribe around a fire roasting meet and eating. We share stories and ideas to keep us entertained before we go to sleep to wake up to a new day tomorrow. Our communication skills were very limited because we did not have a wide vocabulary of words, so we had to use many hand gestures to inform others about what we wanted to tell them. Nowadays the only way to study the life of Neanderthals is through their remains and fossils that scientists discover in the ground. Their remains can give us a great deal of knowledge about them, such as that they could endure a lot of pain because most of the bodies that have been discovered have at least one fracture. There is still much more to discover about this species. (http//www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/704/)

Like the Kid in the film, Charlie Chaplin was a penniless orphan as a young child and used to dance on street corners in London with his brother for spare change. At age eight, he joined a child dance troupe and began taking child roles in London plays. When he was twenty-three, Chaplin toured the U.S. with a stage troupe and was discovered by producer/director Mack Sennet, who had him star in 5 short films within one year (114) for his production company Keystone. By the end of the year, Chaplin was a wealthy man and an established presence in the filmmaking world. Through his initial 5 films, Chaplin evolved the character of the Tramp, an invincible vagabond, [a] resilient little fellow with an eye for beauty and a pretense of elegance who [stands] up heroically and pathetically against overwhelming odds and somehow triumph[s] (Katz 5). He perfected the character in 115 in The Tramp, considered by many to be his first masterpiece. Analyze the character of the Tramp. By the 10s this figure was universally recognized and still is today. Why is he so appealing? What is comical about him? What makes him sympathetic and even at times admirable? What differentiates him from generic vagabond characters? Note the many contradictions in both his personality and his physical characteristics. Why would Chaplin deliberately make his signature character so paradoxical?

The Kid was Chaplins first feature-length film and marked the beginning of his tendency to mix comedy with pathos, a quality that arouses feelings of sympathy, pity, or compassion. (The blend of comedy and pathos reaches its culmination in The Goldrush (15), which many consider his greatest masterpiece.) The comedy in The Kid is more rooted in character and serious situations than in the mindless slapstick of many other silent comedies. Consider the most comic moments--how are they enhanced by the presence of pathos in the film? And how is the pathos enhanced by the comedy? What would the film be like without the comedy?

Chaplin continued making silent films long after sound films became popular (e.g. his City Lights [11] and Modern Times [16] were both silents when most other pictures were talkies). Discuss why a director would choose silents over talkies. What can silent films do that talkies cant?

Discuss the character of the Kid. Jackie Coogan became a star with this role and stayed a star throughout his childhood. His career slumped when he became an adult, however, and by the mid-10s he was virtually unknown. He had a comeback as Uncle Fester in the original Addams Family t.v. show. What makes the Kid so appealing? Is there anything complex about his character? What do he and the Tramp do for a living?

Analyze the dream sequence. Why is it there? Is there anything symbolic in it? Does it add to the emotional effect of the film or to your understanding of character? What kind of heaven does the Tramp eventually find?
