Ethics and Confidentiality

Human Services is characterized as a helping agency. The use of technology in

Human Services is vast and ever increasing. Computers, fax machines, and databases have replaced traditional filing systems. Although the use of technology has improved the quality and quantity of services, the protection of patient confidentiality has suffered.

Personnel training and implementing policy and procedures will foster appropriate use of storing and protecting confidential information.

Appropriately utilizing obtained data ensures individuals requiring mental health services receive accurate care. The need for disseminating the appropriate level of care cannot outweigh the importance of protecting sensitive information. Information used inappropriately could potential have negative side-affects for the organization and individuals involved.

The use of sharing data to diagnose and assess a patient's medical care is essential. The increased use of sharing information amongst medical providers poses a risk of misapplication and redirecting tender information. Sharing of data increases the possibility of confidential information being mishandled.

Compiling statistical data and justifying the need for existence relies heavily on technology. Ethical concerns continue to elevate the importance of balancing the protection of client private information and continual improvement of service.

Appropriate use of information enhances character of the service in a client-based approach. It enables service providers to be knowledgeable about the avenues that have a proven track record. Information forms the basis of an interactive tool for; case management, utilization review, and quality improvement/performance measurement.

There is no debate that need for technology and the use of data is pertinent for the growth in the Human Services Field. The issue at hand is how to protect the data that is shared over the different technological resources.

In a Human Resource Agency a computer security system should be in place. Hardware and software security system needs to be in place and confidentiality should be the mentality of the agency. While no security system is foolproof, it should be time consuming, difficult and leave an audit trail if the security system is compromised. Passwords should be used and access should be limited to a need to know basis.

In order to ensure that the security system that is chosen works, training should take place. Training sessions for employees should be easy to comprehend and pertain to the individual's duties of their job. Sanctions should be discussed and also the consequences of accidental and deliberate violations of security. Federal and state laws that mandate certain information should be shared and employees should have a good understanding of what laws pertain to them.

Clients that come to human services agency for help, whether mandated or voluntarily, have to disclose personal information. The employee should guard that information as if it were his own. This is where ethics come into play. Employees of a human service agency should never discuss or disclose a client's personal information inappropriately.

Confidentially provides a strong foundation to a good human service agency and is essential for the success of any human service agency.

ck Civil Rights More than a hundred years ago the Europeans brought slaves to North America. The blacks found themselves in the midst of prejudice whites with no way out. When the blacks came over Jim Crow laws were incorporated. With these laws it was near impossible for blacks to rise in the white world. Booker T. Washington was the first black to rise to any prominence in this time. In the early 100s blacks however began to fight back. In 10 black advancement organizations began to increase all over North America. Unfortunately with the rise of these groups also came the rise of racist white groups like the Ku Klux Klan and others brutally killing blacks. All blacks coming into N. America were being brought into a very hostile environment. The first sign of blacks becoming more equal was the blacks to fight in the World War. For the first time they were looked upon as war veterans instead of black slaves. Although progress was beginning a black man named Garvey believed that the whites would never change, because of this he started an association called Back to Africa. At the coming of the Second World War, blacks participating in the war were being more important positions than ever before. Franklin Roosevelt was the first president to make a strong contribution to the Civil Rights movement. He had signed a declaration that stated no one could be discriminated in the work place and other areas based on race. Also the high court passed a law that enabled black children to have the same education opportunities as white children. It was in December 155 that Rosa Parks made a big step for civil rights by doing a very small but courageous thing. She was arrested for not giving up her seat to a white man on a bus, which broke one of the many Jim Crow laws. With that one action black activist hired Martin Luther King Jr. to boycott the bus laws. This boycott of the Jim Crow transportation laws was a complete success, launching Martin Luther King Jr. into national stardom with the accomplishment. King often acted on and admired the ways of M. Gandhi. Soon blacks all over began to non-violently protest many segregated places. In turn many places were desegregated. President John F. Kennedy was a strong force also in the fight for black civil rights and his assassination in 16 did cause setbacks. The blacks in the North felt that they had to do more than the blacks in the South to make a difference but they didnt have a voice. That was until Malcolm X joined the voice of Martin Luther King Jr. Malcolm X did make a difference but he was not liked by many whites and even was strongly disliked by black Muslims. Soon later black Muslims shot and killed Malcolm X, not much later Martin Luther King Jr. was also assassinated, and another great voice was silenced. Jesse Jackson arose the killing in 165. He started many organizations to help support blacks and civil rights. Also to show that the equality between blacks and whites was getting stronger Jackson ran for President of the United States in both 184 and 188, not only becoming a threat in the civil rights movement but as a political icon also. His message was and still is well liked by both blacks and whites, as he sends the message of true equality and not just power to blacks. Poverty, education, and racism are still part of todays society and in political battle with each other, but the efforts of all the blacks are paying off for everyone. The world does seem to be getting

The continuity of Jesus Christ through history has been shown in many examples all through the community. These are the people (who we learned this semester) who I consider maintained the teachings of Jesus Christ. Paul and Barnabus's first missionary journey was to spread and preach the word of God, but was not warmly received by the Jews. Silas and Timothy joined Paul on his second missionary journey. Together Paul made three journeys around the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea resulting in the establishment of numerous Christian Churches. The story of Blandina's martyrdom, and her undeniable and courageous strength of faith in Christianity is another example of continuing the Christian tradition. St. Justin (d. 165 A.D.) was the first great Christian apologist known to us by works of any considerable lengths. He attempted to teach and write about the Christian faith, eventually coming to Rome, but was persecuted by his preaching. Athanasius was a great bishop of Alexandria, Egypt who was removed from office five different times but fought resolutely to preserve the truth about Jesus Christ against the Arians.

I discovered the value of the major development and key persons in Church history. Some of the major developments were the disciples longing for the Messiah, which was Jesus, sent by God. The last supper was the ritual meal that was repeated in remembrance of him, Jesus showed the Apostles how they should serve one another and share the word of God. This was the coming-to-birth church, celebrating its first Eucharist. The Resurrection was the crucial event for the Church. Without it, the Apostles would have certainly disbanded, and Jesus would be forgotten. The Council of Jerusalem was the turning point of Christianity. The Christians in Jerusalem called a meeting about the question of the Gentiles' not observing the Jewish Law. As a result Paul was able to preach, and utilize his freedom of speech. It was a turning point that eventually would enable the Church to spread throughout the world. By the end of the first century, the break between Christianity and Judaism became final and complete. Heresies began to erupt within the Church, thus the ramification cultivated into two beliefs. The Gnostics believed that everything, including the human body was evil and the Aranians denied Jesus' divinity. The crusades were seen by most Christians at the time as a great act of faith. Yet is has been one of the sorriest chapters of Christian history. Monasticism was on the way during the fourth century. We extensively learned that it was the movement of men and women to shift way from the world to pursue holiness.

Early monasticism certainly had its scholars, such as Jerome, but the primary prominence of the ancient desert monks and nuns was not on "right thinking" but on "a right heart". Two intellectual giants were giving further shape to what it means to be Christians. They were Augustine and Ambrose. Augustine is one of the most significant figures in Christian history and Ambrose was his studious mentor. His most well known sayings speaks a familiar truth to anyone who has ever searched with longing for fulfillment but come up empty over and over "Our hearts are restless, O Lord, until they rest in you." Leo the Great was known during his years as the pope that stands out as shaping the role of the papacy into a force for leadership of the Western world. He was famous for his short but eloquent sermons that packed churches. "Pontifex Maximus" was another title for he was a spiritual father, but also a powerful state official. The sources of new light for the church were two Benedictine monks who lived at approximately the same time Boniface and Bede. Boniface, an untiring traveler, is remembered as "the Apostle of German". Bede, who spent his childhood and entire adult life in one monastery, is known for his contribution to Christian scholarship and history. Martin Luther was a scholar who had studied the church fathers and the Bible. Luther's famous Ninety-Five Theses initiated a radical change of history. Luther's theses were statements about sin and its forgiveness, the meaning of indulgences, and the pope's power to grant indulgences. Luther's impact grew on many people to side with him and believe in Lutheranism, but fights also transpired between Lutherans and Catholics.

There are six ways of looking at the structure and the inner workings of the Church. First, the Church as Body of Christ or People of God-we profess the same catholic faith, we celebrate the same sacrament and we love one another and serve the poor. Second, the Church as Institution or hierarchical structure-structure includes certain roles and certain rules. Third, the Church as sacrament- Jesus is referred to as the Sacrament of God because he embodies and is a sign and cause of God's loving action in the world. Fourth, the Church as Herald- trumpeting and proclaiming both equal the good news of God and bearing witness to the Gospel. Examples of the media of mass communication consist of TV and radio programs, church publications (bible and magazines) and Internet sites. Fifth, the Church as Servant- the image of Jesus washing the feet of the Apostles on the night before he died is an illustration. Examples of the Church serving needs human needs incorporate Catholic schools, hospitals, orphanages, and nursing homes. Finally Sixth, the Church as community of Disciples- to be a discipleship of Jesus you must imply a change to be different and a willingness to accept the cost of discipleship…the suffering…. ridicule, economy disadvantage, and even martyrdom. The Church serves as an institution, such as, a college or a hospital, to promote a munificent nature towards society, just as the Church is doing to us. The Church is really our friend, because the relationship between friends is composed of reliance, reverence, and contentment. The Church acts on all this because of the presence of Jesus Christ is within the Church to satisfy the bond of the friendship with the Church and us. With the service of the Church also comes with love that we endure in our faith everyday.

After reviewing all of the great and important people who had an affect on Church history, the one person who stuck out for me was St. Paul. The life and faith St. Paul demonstrated can teach a great deal about life in Christ. The examples set by St. Paul can edify our desire to become stronger Christians. The characteristics that Paul of Tarsus beholds are he is very audacious, because no matter what the situation is he is not frightened of it. An example was that when he was on his first missionary journey at local synagogues through Asia Minor he was ignored, beaten, and even stoned. In my opinion, his faith in Christ must have been strong, because he endured suffering physical pain for his love of Christ. Wherever Paul went, he met many people that were cynical of him. This never changed his faith because he knew that the day he experienced the conversation with Jesus Christ that it was true. It teaches us to never doubt the teaching of the Church no matter what some people might say. He also teaches us to love our enemies, in any situation that we encounter. After reading about St. Paul, I realized how many obstacles he went through to serve God and not to be afraid to be more "Christian".

In a quiet neighborhood two young children grew up with each other living next to one another. Jazz, 1 and Rakim 18, had lived next to each other since they were born. Jazz lived by herself as she was brought up by foster parents till the age of 17, they then moved away but Jazz wanted to stay. She did not know who her real parents were as she was put in an orphanage at the age of two. Rakim her best friend had his father pass away when he was 16. Rakim had a heart condition that he thought was not serious enough for a doctor, up until he was 18 he was told by a doctor that he had less than a year left in his life.

The two spent their lives going to the same schools having the same friends doing practically the same things. Jazz and Rakim, Ray as Jazz called him knew everything about each other and were like brother and sister. Rakim's family helped Jazz grow up, as her foster parents did not care about her like Rakim's family did.

"Ring, ring.' The phone went off giving Jazz a tremendous fright, as she was still asleep, she leapt out of bed and reached for the phone. Her voice still croaky she just managed to get a groan out when, abruptly she awoke to the voice of her best friends' mother sobbing on the other line. Jazz had been expecting a call like this for some time, yet she was still unable to grasp the situation entirely.

"Jazz, dear I think you should get down to the hospital…Rakim has taken a turn for the worst. He's been asking for you." Jazz paused for a moment squinting at the clock to read the time. It read 554am. "Sure no problem" she replied in a croaky morning voice "I'll be there in twenty minutes".

Quickly she got dressed, left the house and headed to the car when she realized she had left her keys in the front door. Finally getting herself together she headed for the hospital half asleep and fearful. As she drove she reminised of a time when all was good with her and Rakim, the person she trusted and loved like a brother. Rakim was the one she could turn to; he was her backbone and she his.

Rakim had been sick yet he refused to see a doctor. His future fell from one night, which clearly showed how serious his illness had become. Jazz remembered how upset she had been that night. As per usual Rakim had come through for her and he promised her he'd make her smile again…. "Jazz you can't cry all your life, I know he hurt you and I've been there before. Tonight we'll have a good time and show him your life will go on without him". "But Rakim you don't understand… I loved him and now I lost him." She said reaching for another tissue. "No babe, his mistake, his loss. You did nothing wrong but fall for the wrong guy. Besides you're privileged, you're with the man all the ladies want", he replied sarcastically.

Jazz chuckled quietly to herself remembering how Rakim always had a way with words making her laugh…BEEP, BEEP! Jazz slammed the breaks nearly clipping an on coming car whilst car horns sounded. Gaining control of the car she uncontrollably drifted back to the memories so clear in her mind.

"Rakim I'm really not up for this". He replied " Oh don't be silly. We'll dance and drink all night, my shout" Rakim said with a cheeky laugh. As the night went on she became tired. Although she'd had fun she just had no energy. She went to find Rakim. "Hey cutie! How's about a dance?" A tall man asked grabbing a hold of her arm. "No thank you, I was just leaving". Hurrying her way out in a panic when she was stopped again. "Come on babe, your man isn't around", he jerked forward pulling her towards him. She struggled when she was let free and saw him sprawled across the dance floor.

Jazz turned to see Rakim with four other tall, dark, well built guys. Rakim reached for her putting an arm around her. "Are you okay Jazz? This was a bad idea. I'm sorry". He took her hand escorting her to the club exit. She stopped and turned to him gently saying, "No Ray, this was a great idea. Thank you".

Tears streamed down her cheeks as she approached a set of stoplights. Pulling down the sleeve of her shirt, she wiped away the tears. Amongst the sobs a smile found it's way across her face, as she'd known since they were young they'd be like family forever. "Jazz do you want to sit at the beach? It's a nice night and the evening is young". Rakim brushed her hair away from her face. "Yeah, that sounds nice". She just wanted to sit and relax.

They spoke for hours Sharing secrets, thoughts and feelings. Jazz, I know sometimes it seems as though I'm not around, but you know I'll love you forever. You are like my baby girl". He told her in a reassuring voice, she then said, "I know. We've been friends forever and I love you too, just promise you'll be there forever."

"Always baby girl. "Friends forever". "Forever" she replied. They gazed at the stars that would be cherished for eternity. It began to get late so Rakim took Jazz home. She found a note from her roommate which read 'Gone for the night be back tomorrow. 'Love C.J'. Rakim, Would you stay tonight? The guest room is made up already".

"Okay, if that's what you want" Jazz hit his arm, joking with him. They sat up talking over a hot cup of chocolate. "Tonight was great, but I'm off to bed…. Ray you're the best friend I have ever had. Good night". He laughed and replied "you're only friend, sweet dreams". Jazz launched pillow at him as they laughed.

Jazz remembered hearing a thud that awoke her. Rakim had headaches that night which got worse, he had collapsed. After numerous appointments to a number of doctors it was clear that a tumor had grown. She walked through the corridors of the hospital when Rakim's mother, who led her to his room, approached her. Jazz gently pushed open the door taking a deep breath.

She felt awkward. As she entered she tried to fight back her tears, losing that battle after seeing him in such a state. "Be strong baby girl, there is no need for tears … you know there isn't much time". "Maybe not but we'll be together forever". She paused for a moment I need you Ray!"

"I'll never leave you. Whenever you need someone just look up at the stars and I'll be there. Here take this". He handed her a medallion, inscribed on it wrote 'Forever Friends'. She held tightly to his hand and the medallion saying the last words she had kept a secret all her life. "Ray I'm going to tell you the reason that we are so close and why we love each other so much, two years ago I found out we have been brother and sister since the day you were born, after your father died your mother came and told me." "Jazz I knew all along, my father had left a note along with his personal items for me saying that I must take care of you, love you and be with you all my life as you are my sister, I love you Jazz." Ray said in a last breath as his eyes closed and body laid still.

Jazz couldn't help but be hurt for many reasons. She smiled giving him a gentle kiss on his forehead whispering, "Go in peace". At that moment she knew he was gone. His heart monitor sounded the pain she felt became so intense she let out a cry.

She placed an arm around his waist and rested her head on his chest as she wept. She stared out the window; the clouds allowed a small ray of light to shine through. The image put a smile on her face. With a sigh a tear rolled down her face, he was gone but free of his pain. He could now rest. Softly she said "Good Bye".

Mr. and Mrs. Bennet are intent on having their five daughters marry above their middle-class station. A rich, single man, Charles Bingley rents an estate, Netherfield, nearby. Mrs. Bennet pushes her husband to immediately introduce himself and form an acquaintance. He obliges reluctantly. At a ball, all the Bennets are introduced to the Bingley party. Everyone likes the courteous Mr. Bingley, but his close friend, Fitzwilliam Darcy, is thought to be too arrogant and filled with unconcealed pride and vanity. He won't dance with anyone outside of his own group or deign to speak with them. He states, within Elizabeth Bennet's hearing, that "she is tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt me."

Mr. Bingley's affection for Jane develops quickly, to the concern of his sisters and Mr. Darcy. They can't tolerate her lower status, and are embarrassed by her family's manners and actions. Mr. Darcy, in spite of his better wisdom, becomes infatuated with Elizabeth. He is drawn to her uncensored wit and fine eyes. Miss Bingley's jealous criticisms of her do nothing to lessen his admiration. Miss Bingley has made plans to entrap him for herself, but they seem blocked.

Caroline Bingley invites Jane to Netherfield. While she is en route, in the rain, Jane catches a severe cold. She is forced to stay at the estate and be treated by a local apothecary. Mrs. Bennet is delighted, because this puts Jane in proximity with Mr. Bingley and his wealth. Jane becomes more ill, and her sister Elizabeth goes to Netherfield to nurse her. The concern for her sister and strength of character appeal to Mr. Darcy, but he is afraid of his infatuation with someone who is economically inferior. The Bennet sisters' departure after six days relieves nearly everyone.

Mr. Bennet's estate, Longbourn, is entailed (by law bequeathed) to Mr. Collins, a clergyman and cousin. This is because he has no son; thus, his property will go after his death to Collins as the nearest male relative. Mr. Bennet receives an inane letter from Collins, apologizing for the entail, and hinting at the possibility of marriage with one of the Bennet daughters. He arranges for a fortnight stay at Longbourn, where his officious stupidity delights Mr. Bennet's keen satiric sense, repels Elizabeth, and endears him to the vacuous Mrs. Bennet.

Write my Essay on darcy for me

Mr. Bennet can't wait for him to depart and soon tires of his praise of his patron, Lady Catherine de Bourgh. He sends his cousin on an errand to Meryton with his daughters. There, they meet George Wickham, a handsome and personable military officer. Elizabeth is intrigued when Wickham and Darcy, who obviously know each other, meet on the street and both seem uncomfortable. At a ball, soon after, Wickham tells his life story to Elizabeth. He states that Darcy disobeyed his own father's will out of resentment. (Wickham was a ward of Darcy's father and had been promised revenue for a clergyman's position.) Wickham's story makes Darcy look cruel and self-indulgent. Elizabeth buys this account, because she has pre-determined, negative views of Mr. Darcy's arrogance and pride.

Elizabeth becomes infatuated with the charming Wickham, as do her younger sisters. She resents his absence from the ball thrown by Mr. Bingley at Netherfield. She attributes his lack of attendance to a dispute between Wickham and Darcy, because Wickham has persuaded her of Darcy's bad character. She annoys Darcy by bringing up the subject, and is puzzled by his persistence in approaching her, as she does not know of his attraction. Elizabeth is mortified by her family's behavior that evening. Mrs. Bennet loudly proclaims the merits of a match between Jane and Mr. Bingley. Mary, her sister, bores everyone with her mediocre piano playing. Mr. Collins, her cousin, gracelessly proposes marriage, and she is further embarrassed. He wants a marriage of convenience, and she wants no part of it. She tries to convince him that her refusal is earnest. The support of her father makes Collins see the truth.

Does the name Jesus Christ mean anything to you? To some people Jesus was a wise man that lived ,000 years ago. Others believe that He was the only Son of God. I am going to inform you on who Jesus was, what Jesus claimed to be, and give you other information about Jesus outside of the Bible.

Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem during the reign of King Herod. Mary and Joseph, Jesus mother and father, were engaged to be married and Mary became pregnant. But, Joseph and Mary had not had premarital sex. Joseph was confused and had in mind to divorce Mary, but an angel appeared to him in a dream that it was alright to go along with his marriage to Mary because she had become pregnant by the Holy Spirit. When Jesus was born and aged, He did many miracles and healed many people in his time on earth. Many people believe that Jesus was the Son of God. When he was in his late 0s/early 0s, He developed a ministry in the town of Capernaum. Jesus then chose 1 men to be his followers. They were called his disciples. Jesus told them everything about what was going on and what was about to happen by warning them of his death early in advance. On Jesus last week, Jesus was betrayed by one of his disciples named Judas Iscariot. Judas told the leaders of the time, who didnt like Jesus impact on everyone, that he would tell him where he was so they could go and arrest him for 0 pieces of silver. Judas later hung himself because he could not stand the guilt. The leaders arrested Jesus and took him to Pilate who found no guilt in him. It was Jewish custom for

the passover to release one prisoner and Pilate asked if the people wanted him to release Jesus and they said No, not him so Pilate released another prisoner and had Jesus flogged and mocked and beaten but He could find no base of charge on Him. So Pilate brought Jesus back out to the people and asked what He should do with Jesus and the crowd shouted Crucify Him! Crucify Him! So Pilate washed hands of Jesus blood and ordered him to be crucified. Carrying his own cross, Jesus went to Golgotha where he was crucified. Over the cross was written Jesus of Nazareth, The King Of The Jews. Jesus was nailed to the cross through his hands and feet. When Jesus had died they put him in a tomb and placed a rock over the doorway. Rumor went around to Pilate that Jesus claimed that He would rise again on the third day after his death. So Pilate put guards at the tomb to make sure nothing happened to Jesus body. In three days, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been moved from the door and that Jesus was not there. An angel appeared and told her that Jesus was not there that he had risen. Jesus then appeared to hundreds of people in the next forty days and then he ascended into heaven.Order Custom Proof Of Jesus paper

Jesus had claimed to be the Son of God, that was sent from heaven to die on the cross to forgive all of humanity of their sins. As far-fetched as that may seem, many people all around the world have turned to Jesus and asked him to be in control of their lives. But others choose to reject him and think that if Jesus did exist, He was only a good man. Others believe that Jesus never did live, that He is just something christians made up. I do not believe that to be true. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God that was sent from heaven to die for my sins and that I should turn to Him and let Him be in control of my life. One reason I believe that Jesus really did exist is that if the Gospels

were written in before 70 A.D., there were still plenty of people around to know if the authors were lying about Jesus. Paul Little put it this way

Imagine that someone today wrote a biography of the late President Richard Nixon, and in it said He claimed to be God, to have forgiven peoples sins, and to have risen from the dead. Such a story would never get off the ground because there are still too many people around who knew Nixon. The same would be true for the Gospel writers. If they had written lies, they would have been exposed as frauds.

Another thing was, do you know what happened to the disciples after Jesus death? They panicked and gave up on everything and were about to go on with their regular lives before they had met Jesus. But something happened, something that would make them be bold and fearless. Jesus appeared to them after He rose from the dead. That transformed the disciples in a way no other thing possibly could. They knew the truth and wanted others to know also. They would continue to do so until they died or they were martyred. So, if Jesus didnt really rise from the dead, and all the disciples lied and said that they had seen Jesus and really didnt, the disciples wasted their lives and died for a lie. But another factor comes into play, In one of Pauls letters, the bible said that He appeared to 500 people at once. One of the theories for this, is that Jesus was a hypnonosis expert. Or that they were all hallucinating. If this were true it still doesnt add up. Lee Strobel writes in his book, The Case for Christ, that Only one person can see a hallucination, a group of people, 10, 1, or 500 of them would not have seen the same hallucination at the same time.

That might still not be enough for you to make your decision though, there is also evidence for Jesus outside of the Bible. Both Josephus, the historian, and Lucain indicate

in their writings that Jesus was regarded as being wise. Josephus also writes of him being the Messiah. Pliny the Younger, The Talmud, and Lucian, imply that Jesus was a powerful teacher. Both Josephus and The Talmud say that Jesus performed miraculous feats. All of them, Josephus, The Talmud, Lucian and Pliny, all mention that Jesus was crucified. People of the Islamic faith are taught that Jesus was a prophet of Allah, like Mohammed. The Hindus believe that Jesus...had reached the highest level of God-consciousness. One of the Catholic Popes John Paul II stated that

Christ is absolutedly original and absolutely unique. If He were only a wise man like Socrates, if He were a prophet like Mohammed, if He were enlightened like the Buddha, without a doubt. He would not be what He is.

Recently found evidence in Israel gives new proof of Jesus existence. An ossuary, a box of bones, was discovered with James, Son of Joseph, Brother of Jesus inscribed on the box in the native language Aramaic. The ossuary was discovered just short of the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, the same mount that is believed to be where Jesus last appeared to His disciples and then ascended into heaven. Some scholars do not accept this new find as proof that Jesus exists. They claim that James, Joseph, and Jesus were very common names back then and that the ossuary could be referring to anyone, not neccesarily Jesus Christ. Still others believe that this is without a doubt the ossuary of James the Just as He was known. There is really no way to tell whos bones were in the ossuary. The ossuary was also recently damaged in route to Canada where the owners of the ossuary will put it on display in a musuem.

Introduction

Plants when grow in areas of bad conditions such as waterlogged soils must be able to deal with environmental extremes not experienced by other plants. Mangroves live in the swamp, bathed twice a day by the sea and having their roots in waterlogged soils which are devoid of oxygen, poorly drained, rich in organic matter and anoxic. Because of the lack of oxygen in the soils, mangroves rely on numerous erect aerial roots called pneumetaphores, the mangrove¡¦s breathing roots, to obtain oxygen from the air by means of aerial roots that descend like buttresses from the trunk and lower branches for its extensive root system. The pneumetaphores have corky, water-resistant bark and a spongy interior stiffened by an axis of vascular tissue. Oxygen once taken up will be diffused through aeration tissue in the lateral roots and spread to the rest of the plant.

The height of pneumetaphores varies from one to another, is it related to the height of seawater level or it just happens to be like that? Is there any special strategy for pneumetaphores to get as more oxygen as the water level gets higher? Do they grow higher as they grow closer to the channel where the water level is the highest? If they are, why is it so?

To find out if the height of pneumetaphores if related to the height of the water mark on the trees.

Hypothesis

The pneumetaphores grow higher as the height of the watermark increases.

Equipment

A 10m long stick, a meter ruler.

Methods

1. Imagine a transect line across the creek from the bank to the channel.

. Use the 10m stick to set out ten 10m ( radius 1.75m) quadrats from the bank to the channel along the transect line. Each quadrats is equally spaced in between.

. At each quadrat, use the meter ruler to measure

a) The height of watermark on the trees.

b) The height of 10 random chosen pneumetaphores.

4. Use the t test to test the null hypothesis.

Where XA = mean of the sample A( 10 heights of pneumetaphores in the first quadrat closest to the bank), XB = mean of the sample B ( another 10 heights of pneumetaphores in the last quadrats closest to the channel),

SA = sum of ( XA-XA) / n-1, SB = sum of ( XB-XB )/ n-1 , n= number in each sample. To use the formula n must be the same for sample 1 and .

Variables

Controlled --- Each quadrat need to be evenly spreaded out, and in each quadrat measure exactly 10 heights of pneumetaphores.

Changed --- Set the height of watermark as independent variables.

--- Set the height of pneumetaphores as dependent variables.

Statistical analysis

Null hypothesis --- The height of pneumetaphores vary from each other from bank to the channel has no specific reason; everything happened is only due to chance.

The calculated value of .64 is greater than the critical value of .10 at 0.01 level of significance.

Therefore the null hypothesis is rejected.

So any difference is not just due to chance, there are some facts that determine the distribution of different height of pneumetaphores.

Conclusion

The null hypothesis is rejected. The pneumetaphores grow higher as the height of the watermark increases.

Discussion

The result shows the trend that pneumetaphores grow higher as they get closer to the channel, where the watermark on the trees is the highest. As talked in the introduction, pneumetophores are used to obtain oxygen from the air by mangroves, as water level gets higher towards channel, the surface of pneumetaphores exposure in the air will reduce more and more if they remained the same height and eventually covered totally by the seawater. Thus, to adapt the bad living environment and to survive, the pneumetophores must grow higher as the water level rises, in order to get as much oxygen.

However although the line of trend of the distribution of pneumetaphores basically goes upwards, the specific number didn¡¦t show the exactly accurate trend as in quadrat 5 and 8, the average height of 10 pneumetaphores are both lower than the previous quadrats which have lower watermark. This may be because of insufficiency of samples, that is, only 10 pneumetaphores in each quadrat are not enough, number of samples should be as more as possible. Another reason for the inaccuracy could be the range of area that samples collected is not large enough. More transect lines should be set across the creek. Samples should be collected more and in a large range of area, so the height of pneumetaphores will vary even more in each quadrat and being more accurate. Further more, the way of measuring pneumetaphores may not be as accurate. As we put the ruler down to the mud, it¡¦s always hard to say how deep to the mud should the ruler be put exactly. Therefore the height measured might not be what it really is.

Other than those controllable errors, some causes might affect the result as well, which is hardly avoidable. When we measure the height of the watermark on the trees, a certain amount of watermark might have evaporated in the air already because of the strong sunlight. Thus not 100 % accurate the level of watermark is measured.
