This first colony set the way for other colonies to permanently establish themselves in North America.

Not too long after Jamestown, a group of Separatists, along with others, landed on the shores of Massachusetts in the Mayflower in 160. Unlike Jamestown though, this settlement was based around religion instead of wealth. This idea was good in theory, but when migration slowed, so did business. The colony also faced other hardships such as government. The political focus of the colony became the dealings of the more wealthy, but not necessarily the more religious.
